Bringing authentic
Argentine empanadas
to you
Argentine empanadas
to you
Two friends. One flavorful mission bringing real empanadas to The Hague.
Lisandro, with Argentine roots, grew up on empanadas but it wasn’t until his travels through Spain that he realized how big this snack really was. Fresh, fast, and full of flavor empanadas were everywhere. When he returned to The Hague, he felt it immediately: this kind of authentic streetfood was missing in the Netherlands. Together with Lukas his business partner with a hospitality background they made a plan. The mission: introduce Dutch food lovers to real Argentine empanadas. They tested, tasted, and built something that blends it all: the flavor of Argentina, the flair of Spain, and the rhythm of The Hague. Tío Bigotes The Hague isn’t a copy it’s their version of the empanada experience they missed. And now, everyone in the Netherlands can taste it too

The story of Tio bigotes
In the late 1940s, my grandfather and his brother left their village of Lugo, Spain.
They boarded a ship across the Atlantic, chasing a better life.
After weeks at sea, they arrived in Argentina a country that embraced them completely.
What they didn’t know yet: it would become their home forever.
My great uncle, affectionately called Tio Bigotes, soon found his place in the kitchen.
He started with the Galician empanadas from his childhood, then gradually infused them with Argentine flavor.
Local ingredients, bold spices, and a love for home cooking made them something unique.
Word spread fast — his empanadas became a streetfood favorite in the neighborhood.
His story never left me. I still remember those afternoons in his workshop, learning the secrets of his dough and fillings.
In 2007, I made a decision: to continue his legacy.
I returned to Spain this time not to settle, but to share something timeless.
Tío Bigotes was reborn.
In 2009, the first official Tio Bigotes opened in Catalonia.
A space where memories met flavor and tradition became something to taste.
It started as a tribute, but soon evolved into a fast-growing concept.
The empanada had returned to the streets — fresh, fast, and full of soul.
Today, Tíio Bigotes lives on in every bite.
Each empanada reflects a family tradition, passed down with care.
We stay true to the original recipes simple, honest, and always freshly baked.
It’s more than food. It’s our story, folded in pastry.
Now, Lisandro and Lukas continue that story in the heart of The Hague.
Lisandro, rooted in Argentina, rediscovered the empanada while traveling through Spain.
He and Lukas knew one thing: the Netherlands was missing this.
Together, they brought Tío Bigotes to life in the Dutch capital of flavor.
It’s not just another empanada place it’s their personal tribute to a culinary legacy.
Authentic Argentine empanadas, freshly baked and served with a mission.
